I decided that as it is a new month, it's time for new decks. And because I am feeling somewhat whimsical, I chose the Vanessa Tarot and Tarot of the Magical Forest.

Boy, the Vanessa 9 of Wands certainly doesn’t look like she’s been burdened by anything. She almost reminds me of Auntie Mame – life is an adventure and should be lived to the fullest. While our poor little pop-eyed frog friend on the Magical Forest card looks more somber and serious. He looks like he’s standing guard duty. He reminds me of the story of the Princess and the Frog – he’s just watching and waiting, hoping eventually his vigilance will be rewarded.

But the lady on the Vanessa Tarot – she’s hot stuff. She has not only overcome whatever challenges lay in her path, she is celebrating her victories and inviting you to join her. She is bright and brilliant and full of life and fun. I love this image. She suggests to me that our victories should be occasions for joy not endurance. She knows life is a struggle but each time we move forward or reach a small goal we should dance and sing. That’s what I need more of in my life – dancing and singing with each small victory, rather than focusing on the battles that have been fought. When you've been fighting for a long time for anything, it can be easy to get lost in the battle itself. This card is a reminder that the battles are ends to a mean. Life is not about the wins or losses (well it is but that's not all it's about). It's about what you learned along the way. And this vibrant lady is suggesting I learn to celebrate and enjoy the fact that I'm alive to even be involved in any battles.
