COTD - Knight of Pentacles reversed (Whispering & Templar Tarots)

Ahh, so an old friend comes to pay me another visit. Obviously I did not quite grok his message the first time.

I really like the image on the Knight of Pentacles. He reminds me of a warrior, exhausted and worn out but still able to defend if the need arises. He is a warrior for the bloodline, the sang real, of Jesus. This Knight could be one of the Templar Knights, a, wealthy, powerful and influential order formed to protect Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem during the Crusades.

The Knights Templar were protectors and defenders of the faith, much like the Knight of Pentacles. They were dedicated and respected warriors who believed they had a sacred mission to help reclaim Jerusalem and protect pilgrims from infidels. Over the years the mythos of the Templars has intertwined with that of the Holy Grail and they are often seen as protectors and defenders of the Grail (whether it is the sacred bloodline or sacred chalice).

So in light of this illustrious history I have to ask myself how am I not embodying this energy in my life? For this card to appear twice within a few days tells me that his message is important and I’m not hearing it.

Perhaps I’m not using my common sense and experience in dealing with current situations. I’m letting other control the game. Instead of setting my own goals and working towards them, I am letting others guide my moves. The problem with this is that I don’t follow the directions of others very well. So this means I end up becoming lethargic and lazy and not doing anything. I need to implement some of the discipline and vision of the Templars into my life. I need to be willing to carry out assignments (even if I disagree with them initially) and prove myself to my supervisors, supporters and detractors. I can do this; I have never been afraid of hard work. But I need to do it with a practical and realistic plan. As Stephen Covey (or someone) has said “begin with the end in mind”. So I have to envision my goals and then work tirelessly towards them. And if I eventually realize that my goals have changed, at least I will have acquired some new experience and knowledge along the way.
