The Sun (Secret & Healing Tarot)

The Sun represents a new day dawning, a chance to face life with a new attitude and with the hope and belief in possibilities that a new day implies.  The Sun is the reminder that no matter how dark things may seem in our lives, the light always returns.  The Sun can also prove to be harsh, revealing all of our imperfections to the light of day.  Re-directing your growth using the knowledge, experience and learning of the past cycle as a base.  Having truly learned the lessons of the past, you are able to use what you've learned effectively.  Coming to a bend in the road of your lifestyle, job, relationship or worldly activities.  Choosing to be involved with past activities in a somewhat different way.  Experiencing a rush of enthusiasm  for doing things in this altered way.

Yup, this is how I feel today - like the sun came out and is shining down on me after a long dark period.  The two nude boys on the Secret Sun card remind me of having the opportunity to start over, bare and with no excess baggage (well actually they creep me out a bit but I'm trying to put a positive spin on it here).  The mounted figure on the Healing Sun card reminds me a bit of an Empress figure bringing bounty and abundance to everyone.  but she is also a source of light and warmth.  You almost can't help looking at her because she radiates confidence and self-assurance.  She knows she is connected to the divine and the Universe and she is allowing us to bask in her glory and is basking in ours as well.

Maybe the message of The Sun for me is that I need to be confident enough in my own skills, my own radiance that I am not jealous or feel somehow less when I come in contact with other people's.  Maybe my mission is becoming not only to enjoy and embrace my own radiance but to help others celebrate theirs.  What a concept.  I'm so excited.  Maybe training really is what I am destined to do - to help other gains skills and knowledge that will help them excel in their lives or jobs.  My gift might be to let my energy and aura envelope and warm them and let them feel comfortable and safe enough to begin shining their own light.  After all, one of the blessings the sun brings is that she warms the earth so that life can grow and her brilliant light reveals all those dark places in our lives and dispels the shadows that seem to frightening in the dark.

This could also tie in with my Tarot work.  The Sun might symbolize the fact that I am reaching that point where I will be comfortable shining and allowing others to see me as a luminary (okay so I like hyperbole).  But really, I think The Sun is telling me it's time to help be the Sun in people's lives; to help shine light into those dark places and chase away the fears.  I've always felt connected to The Sun (much more so than the Moon).  As a child I was always more of a solar child.  As I became more involved in the Pagan community I felt like something of an oddball because most women in Paganism identify with The Moon but I don't, I never have.  But in most ancient Pagan religions the Sun represented masculine energy.  Then I discovered Norse and Irish mythology and realized the Sun is female in those cultures (or at least a female noun).  And I realized my connection to the Sun and to these powerful, amazing goddesses who were also solar in some way.  They were protectors and warriors, lovers and healers, poets and bringers of abundance.  I wanted to connect with those energies and those goddesses.  But somehow along the way I lost sight of that.  I lost my connection, my specialness and I hid it beneath a layer of sarcasm and a shell of defensiveness.  But my inner radiance has finally broken through that shell and is ready to shine forth again.  It's about damn time!!
