COTD - The Sun reversed (Arcus Arcanum & Dark Grimoire)

"You're coming to a bend in the road of your lifestyle, job, relationship or worldly activities.  You aren't leaving the past activities, projects, or people behind - you do value them.  You're just choosing to be involved with them in a somewhat different way.  You're experimenting a rush of enthusiasm for doing things in this altered way.  You might be remodeling your current house or establishing a new contract in your old relationship."

The Sun represents a new day dawning, a chance to face life with a new attitude and with the hope and belief in possibilities that a new day implies.  The Sun is the reminder that no matter how dark things may seem in our lives, the light always returns.  The Sun can also prove to be harsh, revealing all of our imperfections to the light of day.

The image on the Dark Grimoire Tarot shows a group of quasi-human figures shambling towards the sunlight which is starting to rise over the horizon.  Although their appearance is rather frightful and almost hideous, they seem to be moving towards the light as though it represents a new opportunity.  It is literally a new day dawning and they have the option to free themselves from the gloomy cave which they inhabit.  Are they attracted to the sun because they seek its warmth and light or are they afraid of it, afraid of what it will reveal?

The image on the Arcus Arcanum Sun is a more traditional image - two nude blond-haired children (one boy and one girl) frolicking in a field next to a stream.  Across the stream is an arch-shaped hedge and in the foreground are large sunflowers.  The rays of the radiant sun beam down and embrace the land.  It is a bright, joyful and promising image.  There is a sense of celebration and innocence, unselfconsciousness and exuberance.  These two children are just full of life and the hope that a new day dawning brings.  They have made it through the darkness, the fear, the uncertainty and now they can celebrate their achievements.

Today the Sun is reversed for me.  I think that this means I should still work to achieve my goals and have my moment in the sun, but I should not expect it to be recognized by others just yet.  Just because I am not getting the public recognition that I might desire doesn't mean I should give up.  I still need to focus my energies on whatever the task at hand might be or achieving my goals whether it gets seen by others or not.  My motivations need to be internal, the personal satisfaction of a job well done, rather than external validation.

This is challenging for me.  My ego loves to be stroked and told how good I am or how interesting I am or whatever.  Finding internal validation has always been a bit of a challenge for me.  It's one of the reasons I find it so difficult to do paperwork - no one but a bureaucrat appreciates paperwork.  I love facilitating training because I know I'm good at it and I get validation from the participants.  My weakness is in creating the outline or curriculum and then completing the follow up paperwork.  Even with assignments for school I often put off writing reports or assignments until last possible minute, even though I know this is counter-productive and creates unnecessary stress.

The Sun reversed may be letting me know that I have to find the internal motivation that will help me keep moving forward even without external validation.  I need to put in the effort even if no one else sees it.  As frustrating as it may be, these are things that need to be done and they are my task.  I can always frolic later, once the paperwork is done.
