That Was The Week That Was - 5 of Cups, Knight of Pentacles, Ace of Cups, The Devil, Ace of Wands, The World
Looking at the image on this card I was struck by two things. The first is the contrast between the small figure in the right hand corner from the 5 of Cups and the larger, more dynamic figure of the Knight of Pentacles in the left hand corner. The 5 of Cups is alone and seems shrunken in on herself. The Knight of Pentacles is surrounded by flames yet seems untouched. He actually looks like he's melting marshmallows over a campfire or maybe playing a violin.
At the center of the cards, The Devil, Ace of Cups and World combine to create a swirling, twirling focus of energy that is contained by the chains of The Devil. The large staff from the Ace of Wands overlays this energy. The image gave me the idea that all of this creative, dynamic energy is already present in my life. What is preventing it from manifesting is that I need to harness it more effectively. I need to be like the Knight of Pentacles - using it to transform something. He might be transforming the marshmallow into a melty, sweet treat or he may be transforming his ideas into musical notes. Perhaps he is strong enough to hold that staff and stir up things at the center of the Devil's chains.
The key idea I got from looking at this card is that in order to use this energy to my benefit, I have to become more focused and more disciplined. I don't need to be constrained but it does need to be channeled. The Knight of Pentacles even seems to be tending one of the links in the chain, as though checking to be sure it's sound. I view Knights as representing the fire aspect of the court cards. So the Knight of Pentacles is fire of earth. Maybe he is the container that is able to ensure the fire can securely and freely burn. Fire is that must more effective and powerful when it is channeled.
So perhaps the key to certain issues that came up this week is to leave behind the sorrow and loss of the 5 of Cups. Take up the mantle of the Knight of Pentacles and use his creative energy and discipline to stir up the cauldron of creative energy, dreams and ideas that are swirling around in my head. I need discipline and focus in order to achieve my goals. I need to actually do the work not just read about it and think about it.
