The Lovers often represent making a decision between choices, selecting a path and committing to it, and the connection between the divine and the human.  The choices reflected in The Lovers are not easy choices, they are matters of life-long impact.  Once we start down that path, it will difficult to change course.  It's not as easy as just backtracking.

On the Fradella Adventure (FA) Lovers card we see two superheroes (Lexicon and Jade Tiger) standing on opposite sides of a narrow light green path that leads to a golden castle in the distance.  They are reaching towards each other, seeming almost hesitant to actually touch each other.  I get the sense that if the actually connect and touch each other it will change both of them forever.  Overlooking this scene is Xi Wang-mu, a goddess who has had challenges with Jade Tiger in the past.  However she seems to approve of this connection.  Perhaps she knows that Lexicon will enable Jade Tiger to connect with his softer side.  It will enable him to be a more holistic human, in touch with both his feminine and masculine sides.  And Lexicon will be able to connect into the more masculine energy represented by Jade Tiger.

On the Anna K Tarot we see an elderly couple sitting on a bench in a garden.  They appear to still be very much in love with each other.  It would appear that they had a long and fruitful life together, filled with joy and hardship.  Despite whatever challenges life may have put in their path, they managed to overcome them together.  They have endured and triumphed together.  I get the sense that each has given support and strength to the other.  They are a true team and the strength of that bond has enabled them to live a long and fulfilling life.

My question today was "what is my gift?"  Looking at these cards made me realize my gift if my marriage.  I am lucky to be married to a man who embodies all the positive qualities represented by these cards.  In some ways we've moved from the tentative approach of the FA to the enduring, comfortable relationship represented in the Anna K.  I can easily see us in our 60s and beyond just sitting together and enjoying the flowers.  We made a commitment to each other 23 years ago and as far as I can tell neither of us has wavered in that commitment.  It is not always easy.  There are times when we fight and become cranky with each other.  There are times when we need a break from each other but we both always know that we belong together.  And that is truly a gift from the gods.  One that I fully appreciate.
