It can be so hard to admit we need help - What do I need to focus on today? 5 of Pentacles reversed (Collective Spirit & Fairy Tale - Prague)

The number 5 represents the need for adjustment, some kind of change, or that added something that brings the situation out of balance again.  It represents the struggle and challenge of inner and outer growth; adapting to feedback about your action; working out the kinks.  Coins are associated with the material world, acquisitions of wealth and possessions, our connection to Earth and Nature, sensation, matters pertaining to the physical plane, the body, health and physical or sexual activities.  Coins can also be connected with practicality, groundedness and being realistic.

You're experiencing shifts and adjustments in your inner sense of security or centeredness.  You may feel that you basic groundedness is being challenged.  You're changing the ways in which you feel connected with the earth.  You're altering or questioning your "security blanket". - Gail Fairfield

The Fairy Tale Tarot uses one of the Arabian Night tales of the Ruined Man who Became Rich Again to illustrate this card.  It's a story of a man who loses his money and has a dream telling him to go to a specific place.  When he arrives there he meets another man who laughs at his dream and shares one of his own.  In the other man's dream he finds a lot of money.  The man laughs at his own dream but the first man decides to follow it through and does find a treasure there.  The then returns home richer than before.

Reading this story I was struck by something - the formerly rich man only regains his riches by sharing his woes with someone else.  Even though the second man did not intend to help the first man, ultimately he did.  This is something very important for me to remember.  It is okay to share one's troubles with friends and loved ones.  I'm not talking about whining incessantly (can you tell I have a thing against whining).  But sharing your situation with others, even if they're not friends, may open up possibilities you hadn't considered before.  For example, perhaps you mention to an acquaintance that you are seeking employment.  The person asks about your credentials and experience and then shares that they know of a place looking to hiring someone with just those credentials.  If you had not shared your situation with this person, the opportunity would have been lost.  In this economy we need all the help we can get.

Sometimes when we lose a job or are having financial difficulties we are reluctant to share this information with others because we fear it makes us look like a failure or weak.  In reality sharing this burden may help lighten it.  Others are often willing to help us out if we tell then what kind of help we need.  Many people like to feel they are doing good in the world by helping their neighbors.  Some can be a bit annoying about it but most simple like to feel good about themselves.  Why not give them the opportunity?  So from now on when I am in need of help, I will reach out to my network of friends and family.  If they can help, wonderful and if not, well maybe next time.
