Defending against my inner imps - What message do you have for me today? 7 of Wands/Imps R (Halloween & Bohemian Gothic)

The 7 of Wands - triumphantly defending yourself; holding off all attackers; confronting your problems; facing adversity; dealing with challenges. All of these terms can be applied to the 7 of Wands. It is a card of triumph over adversity, or at least being willing to attempt to triumph over adversity.  Wands are usually associated with the element of fire, inspiration, energy, passion, feeling, enterprise, ambition, matters pertaining to the "spark of life", and action.  The number 7 in many cultures is a sacred number (think of the 7 chakras) and is the number of divine and earthly harmony, of fate and transformation.  The 7 of Wands often symbolizes standing up for what you believe in and defending your principles.

Fairfield:  You are experiencing who you are on a variety of levels.  You recognize that you are not just one self, you are many selves.  Now, you are being more flexible with ways that you name yourself.  It's stimulating to imagine yourself as a variety of different people.  Others may not see your multiple selves, but you enjoy them."

What are those damn imps on the Halloween 7 of Imps card up to now?  In their midst is a youngster who is obviously wearing a costume.  Perhaps the true imps are trying to corrupt the Halloween imp and lead him or her into mischief and deviltry.  He needs to be on guard and be wary of getting caught up in their actions.  The card reminds me of "Devil's Night" - the night before Halloween when youngsters feel the need to roam the streets of their community wreaking havoc with acts of mischief and vandalism.  It's as though all the rules of appropriate conduct are suspended for the night.  Of course the sad fact is that it used to only occur once a year but for some it is a daily or weekly activity.

The demon on the BG 7 of Wands is a more fearsome figure but is he attacking others or is he trying to protect himself?  Ironically I identify with the demon on this card.  He he caused any real harm?  We can't be sure from this scene.  I am choosing to interpret this card as someone identified as different or not part of the tribe being attacked by the guardians or social and moral correctness.  Who knows, perhaps the demon means no harm.  He might simply want to be left alone to live his own life and is trying to defend his fortress against these relentless invaders.  Then again I am always more likely to sympathize with the oddball outsider than with the conservative defenders of moral rectitude.

Perhaps the reversed nature of this card is encouraging me to reconnect with my mischievous inner imp and embrace my inner demon, my inner oddball without limiting myself to this paradigm.  Just because I can embrace my inner oddball doesn't mean that is the only facet of myself that I can call on to deal with the world.

In fact I just finished a novel called Andromeda Klein about a teenage girl who is a misfit and oddball.  She has a crush on A.E. Waite, knows the correct way to pronounce Crowley and is involved in Tarot and a dreamstate affair with a figure she calls the King of Sacramento.  It was a wonderful affirmation of being different and true to yourself .  I wish I had known an Andromeda Klein when I was that age - then again looking back I probably did.

So for all you oddballs and misfits out there - celebrate your strangeness without losing your ability to conform in certain situations!!  And if you're going to cause mischief and mayhem, doing it according to your own unique approach to live not because of peer pressure or community expectations.  Vive le oddballs!!
