What message do you have for me today? - Son of Earth/Knight of Pentacles (Experimental & Dame Fortune)

The Knight of Pentacles can represent a focus that is too narrow; the need to develop greater breadth of vision; experimenting with imaginative problem-solving techniques; lethargy, lack of discipline; inability to make plans, limited vision; irresponsibility, especially when it comes to carrying out assignments. Knights symbolize protection, strength, ambition and questing. Pentacles are associated with the material world, acquisitions of wealth and possessions, our connection to Earth and Nature, sensation, matters pertaining to the physical plane and the element of earth. Pentacles can also be connected with practicality, groundedness and being realistic.
"You are focusing so hard on establishing security that nothing else seems relevant. You may seem like a workaholic. You are putting all your energy into your home, career, physical body, or financial affairs. You are feeling that you need to work hard right now, with few distractions." - Gail Fairfield
The Son Earth from the Experimental Tarot shows a very interesting image of two men walking in the midst of a steel trap. They both wear business suits and carry briefcases. They also seem intently focused on where they are heading and completely oblivious to the trap around them. Beneath them is a man trudging along pulling a wooden cart. It's interesting that the two businessmen seem oblivious to the trap around them. They are so focused on moving forward that the very real possibility of being harmed doesn't occur to them. Although their appearance is modern, they are as focused on moving forward as the figure below them. They are as bound to their toil as he is. They may appear to be freer because their burdens do not seem as large or heavy, but they are just as weighed down.
The Knight of Coins from the Dame Fortune deck shows a knight wearing a red surcoat over his armor riding a white horse. The knight carries a large, vividly decorated coin in his right hand. His attention seem focused on the coin as his horse trots forward. I get a sense of slow but steady movement in this card. The horse is nor rearing up or charging ahead. He seems to be in no rush to move ahead. The knight seems so focused on the coin that he is almost oblivious to everything else. Does he see the growth and verdant plants that surround him or is he so focused on the coin that he is oblivious to all else?
Naturally how I interpret these images depends upon my mood at the time. Today I'm taking their message as a reminder not to get so trapped in a quest for material possessions that I don't see what is going on around me. I need to be careful not to become so caught up in my own pursuits that I lose sight of what else is going on out there. Sometimes it can be so easy for me to become so inwardly focused or so narrow in my scope that I don't realize that major stories are taking place in other people's lives and in the world. This may be one of the flaws of the Knight of Coins - he is trying to be so careful to do what is right that he can't see outside his own experiences. He may be unlikely to create any dramatic situations but he can also be relatively unaware when you are caught in one of your own. Sometimes this describes me. So I need to be more aware and more involved with what is going on with the world outside my door. It will help expand my own world view and put things in perspective. It can help me realize it's not just me and find support from others in similar straits.
