What do I most need to know today? - 10 of Earth/Pentacles (Elemental & RWS)

The number 10 indicates that something is over but not finished and about to begin again.  Pentacles are associated with the material world, acquisitions of wealth and possessions, our connection to Earth and Nature, sensation, matters pertaining to the physical plane and the element of earth.  Pentacles can also be connected with practicality, groundedness and being realistic.  The 10 of Pentacles often represents the contented, solid, happy family.

"You are recognizing that you may soon need to make some decisions about the kind of security pattern that you have established.  Your current security is stable but not growing or developing.  Your job or home situation is steady but not stimulating.  Your financial situation is safe and low-risk.  Pretty soon, things will begin to stagnate if no changes are made.  But for now, it feels comfortable to maintain the kind of security that you have and to avoid making too many changes." - Gail Fairfield

These cards offer two fairly different interpretations of this card.  The RWS offers the traditional image of a family seemingly surrounded by abundance and prosperity.  The Elemental 10 of Earth shows two figures, one blindfolded and upright, the other wearing a mask and upside down.  The blindfolded figure is holding a sprig with leaves growing on it.  The upside down figure is holding a box and seeds seem to be pouring out of it.  The keyword is desert.  Perhaps the key is that as long as there is a balance - one upright and one upside down, there will be planting and growth.  Or perhaps it symbolizes the differences between the Northern and Southern hemispheres.  When it is winter in one hemisphere it is summer in the other.  When it is time to harvest in one hemisphere, it is time to plant in the other.

This ties in somewhat with my card yesterday - it reminds me that what goes up, must come down (to steal a lyric from Blood, Sweat & Tears).  Or as The Birds sang (with a nod to Deuteronomy) "to every thing there is a season".  Perhaps they key to not creating a desert in my own life is to work with these cycles and accept the limitation inherent in this type of system.  This is sometimes a challenge for me - I have the attitude that I should be able to do what I want when I want.  I'm guessing this might be something I need to change.

Perhaps I also need to start planting some seeds of my own so that I can reap the benefits in the future.  I'm guessing that is the Universe's subtle way to pushing me to become more focused in my job hunt.  It's time to actively plant those seeds (send out my resume) so that I can reap a bountiful harvest (a job that I will love).
