What riches lie in your treasury? Change/Wheel of Fortune (Osho Zen & Victoria Regina)

The Wheel of Fortune represents the cycles of life, the seasons of the year.  It is the 10th Major Arcana card.  When it appears in a reading it often indicates a major change in circumstances brought about by outside influences.  This card suggests that an understanding of life's cycles and a willing to accept changes may be beneficial.  The Wheel of Fortune reinforces the idea that sometimes things happen as part of the natural cycle of life.  This card represents major changes in one's life, a life altering shift.

"Positive:  Everything possible has been done, by you or by others, to set things in motion, so you need not push yourself any harder.  Simply relax and wait to see what the Universe sends in response.
Upright:  You've set events in motion in a concrete, observable way.  You have actually sent a letter, called someone, or made travel reservations.  You've done something in the real world, to get things started." - Gail Fairfield

How interesting to draw this card in response to the question because change is the one thing in the world I resist.  Change upsets and unsettles me.  It makes me feel insecure and worried.  I crave stability and the familiar.  It is one of the reasons the gentrification of my neighborhood drives me crazy.  I don't care how "improved" people believe this gentrification has made things, it's still change.

At the same time, I am able to take a philosophical perspective on life and I realize that there are cycles to things.  Even looking at politics and the overall tone of things in the USA - we go through cycles of Republican leadership and a generally conservative attitude towards social issues.  Then we spin into a Democratic and more liberal cycle.  During each cycle, there are still elements of the opposing voices which are heard but they are no longer dominant.

Looking at the history of civilizations we can see a pattern - the civilization struggles and fights to establish itself, then it enjoy a period of wealth and prosperity and then it becomes bloated and corrupt and eventually falls.  Egypt experience this cycle; Rome experience this cycle; England went through this cycle and now the USA is in this cycle.  What I find sadly and ironic is that each new dominant civilization fails to learn from its predecessor and tends to make the same mistakes.  Sometimes these mistakes are what ultimately leads to the decline of the civilization.

So then what lies in my treasury that pertains to change?  What I take away from this is that my past experiences have given me the knowledge I will need to ride out the changes that await me.  I have the skills, the wisdom and the ability to benefit from these changes but I have to look at them from with clear sight and intellect and not get caught up in my emotional response to change.  The reality is that change is inevitable.  It is the only constant in life (aside from death and taxes of course).  This will not be an easy shift for me to make.  It will force me to face that fear and accept that I can't control the changes that occur in life but I can control how I respond to them and what impact they have on my life.  As the song says "What goes up, must come down".
