The Sun (Halloween & Dark Grimoire) Where do I need to re-direct my growth?

The Sun represents a new day dawning, a chance to face life with a new attitude and with the hope and belief in possibilities that a new day implies. The Sun is the reminder that no matter how dark things may seem in our lives, the light always returns. The Sun can also prove to be harsh, revealing all of our imperfections to the light of day.
"Positive: You are re-directing your growth, using the knowledge, experience, and learning of the past cycle as a base. You are justified in having high hopes and expectations. Having truly learned the lessons of the past, you are able to use what you've learned the lessons of the past, you are able to use what you've learned effectively. Now, you can make adjustments in something you've tried before and know that the result will be much more satisfying and successful.
Upright: You're coming to a bend in the road of your lifestyle, job, relationship or worldly activities. You aren't leaving the past activities, projects, or people behind - you do value them. You're just choosing to be involved with them in a somewhat different way. You're experimenting a rush of enthusiasm for doing things in this altered way. You might be remodeling your current house or establishing a new contract in your old relationship." - Gail Fairfield
Each time I draw this card I hear the song "Let the Sun Shine In" from the Flintstones cartoon. It's a bright, bouncy and cheery song. And that's the sense I get when I see this card - well usually. Looking at the creatures crawling towards the sun shining through the entrance of the tunnel one gets a sense of creeping horror - what will they look like when they are visible? Or perhaps they are following the progress of the two figures in the foreground who sense that once they reach the light they will be safe from the reach of the cave dwellers.
That is the beauty of The Sun - in the light of day everything seems normal and safe again. We don't fear things going bump in the night or shadows that seem to lurch out at us. Even the two headed monster on the Halloween Sun card seems content and happy as one head munches on a bone and the other naps. The sunflowers almost seem to be dancing in the sunlight and even the skulls seem cheery and chipper. What can be frightening or threatening about a beautiful sunny day?
Well the reality is that lots of things can be scary even on a sunny day. Many of the worst atrocities committed in human history have happened in the daylight hours. And sometimes too much sunlight can be a bad thing, burning and searing all that lies in its path. Too much sunlight can be quite unhealthy for humans. So, as with so many things, sunlight in moderation is a good thing.
I don't think the dark side of the Sun is the issue here. I think they key for me is to focus on what will bring me back into the sunlight. What will let me bask in my own reflected glory and allow others to appreciate my brilliance and radiance (modest, ain't I)? I think this card is about growing in a way that will let me feel that sense of accomplishment and success, something that has been somewhat lacking in my life lately. Obviously this is something I need to work on. In order to grow, plants need sunlight. In order for me to grow, I need some recognition and light too. Now how to acquire this necessary ingredient. The first step is opening my eyes about it. Sometimes recognizing that we need something makes us open to experiences that will provide what we need.
